Phil Robertson suggests men marry teenage girls in newly resurfaced video

The "Duck Dynasty" star once advised men to marry "girls when they are about 15 or 16."

Dec. 30 (UPI) -- The latest chapter in Phil Robertson's public relations saga involves comments he made to a group of Christian sportsmen back in 2009.

In a YouTube video that surfaced this week, the 67-year-old reality star and duck-call magnate advising men to consider marrying "girls of 15 or 16."

"They got to where they getting hard to find, mainly because these boys are waiting till they get to be about 20 years old before they marry them," the Bayou businessman said of prospective marriage partners. "Look, you wait till they get to be 20 years old the only picking that's going to take place is your pocket. You got to marry these girls when they are about 15 or 16. They'll pick your ducks. You need to check with mom and dad about that, of course."

In Robertson's home state of Louisiana, 16-year-olds can marry with parental consent.

"Make sure she carries her Bible," the Duck Dynasty star added. "That'll save you a lot of trouble down the road. And if she picks your ducks, now, that's a woman.

As Slate points out, "pick your ducks" refers to the practice of picking the feathers off of dead ducks, a task traditionally performed by women.

Robertson started dating his wife Kay when she was 14 and he was 18. They married when she was 16 in 1966.

A&E recently lifted Robertson's temporary suspension from filming, following pressure from the Robertson family and fans of the show.
