The reign of Justin Bieber might be coming to an end.
During an appearance at Power 106 in L.A. Wednesday, the 19-year-old singer announced that he would retire after his next album, Journals, is released next week.
"I want to grow as an artist and I’m taking a step out, I want my music to mature," he explained, adding that he's never really cared about fame, "I’m here solely for my fans and for the music."
Bieber has had an eventful 2013. The year was filled with paparazzi fights, twitter rants, shirtless selfies, graffities and a tough breakup from longtime girlfriend Selena Gomez and it all might just be enough to make the Canadian singer want to leave show business.
"I’m 19, I’m going to make mistakes it’s inevitable," he said regarding his misadventures.
However, the whole "I'm retiring" thing might have been just another one of his jokes.
"The kid's got ambition," a member of his team told TMZ regarding the singer's comments, and claiming Bieber was just joking around.
Still, you can hear Bieber make the announcement in the clip below.
