Three-time contestant Tyson Apostol, 34, finally walked away with the million-dollar prize, easily outvoting Monica Culpepper and Gervase Peterson.

Although Apostol, a former professional cyclist from Provo, Utah, had to keep his victory a secret for several months, he said it was his well-toned physique that managed to give him away, at least to his friends and family.

“Every other time I’ve come [home] fatter because they send me on a trip or put me in [voted off contestant’s sequester camp] Ponderosa,” Apostol said after a live broadcast Sunday night. “I come home all bloated and gross looking. This time I had a super dope tan and was also super thin. And I was still sick, my stomach was sick a little bit. So they had a pretty good hint that I had made it far.”

Apostol had competed in the spring 2009 and spring 2010 seasons, and this time, due to the show's new "blood vs. water" twist, got to bring his girlfriend along. Rachel Foulger was kicked off fairly early as their fellow contestants hoped to lure him out of the game by switching places with her.
