Carjacking victim Dustin Friedland's vehicle was recovered Monday morning, just hours after he died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Friedland, 30, reportedly struggled with his two attackers as they approached him in the parking garage of the upscale Short Hills mall in Millburn, New Jersey, law enforcement said. Witnesses said two shots were fired -- one struck Friedland in the head -- before the assailants sped off in victim's 2012 Range Rover and the green Subaru they arrived in.
Police said the attackers forced Frieland's wife out of the vehicle at gunpoint before driving off. She was not injured.
Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray said Friedland died at Morristown Memorial Medical Center at 11:45 p.m., nearly three hours after he was shot.
Investigators located the stolen Range Rover early Sunday morning, but the Friedlands' attackers are still at large.
