Ohio crash that killed two caught on camera

Dec. 11 (UPI) -- A fiery crash that killed two people in Ohio on Thanksgiving was caught on video thanks to the dash cam in a pursuing patrol car.

Police released video of the car driven by Andrew Gans, 24, speeding by at speeds topping 125 miles an hour. The trooper followed Gans for 17 miles, and eventually came upon the crash site, where Gans' car had hit the van carrying Wilbur and Margaret McCoy.

The trooper attempted to quench the fire burning and get the McCoys out of the car, but an explosion killed them both.

"To have somebody going this fast for such a long period of time, from when they were first observed, when we started getting calls on it, to ultimately when the crash occurred, this person seemingly not to yield, not to slow down," said Lt. Anne Ralston of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. "It is very rare to be going that fast for that length of distance."

Gans is being held on $1 million bond and faces two counts of vehicular homicide. He is expected in court next week.
