Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Fans and car enthusiasts descended on a Valencia business park Sunday to remember late actor Paul Walker and his friend Roger Rodas, who were killed in a fiery car crash last weekend.

“I have heard people coming from Texas, already from last night and a couple of other buddies came from the Bay Area,” said one participant. “He’s an inspiration. He’s a hero to everybody out here.”

SoCal Car Meets organized the memorial with a Facebook invitation that received nearly 8,000 RSVPs. Thousands of people attended the event at midday on Sunday, driving their souped-up vehicles down a normally quiet stretch of road and clogging traffic for three miles.

The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department issued a traffic advisory warning drivers to avoid away from the area if they did not intend to participate.

Meanwhile, cars were allowed to drive in twos down Hercules Street, where Walker's 2005 Porsche Carrera GT crashed into a pole and burst into flames.
