Nov. 26 (UPI) -- If you like your royals on the scruffy side, then you'll love Prince Harry's new beard.

The British royal family's ginger representative is already a prince and an Apache helicopter pilot. But in case you ever doubted his manliness, Harry debuted the thin beginnings of a beard in an interview from Antarctica on Monday.

The scraggly ginger facial hair appeared ahead of the 29-year-old's planned 208-mile charity trek to the South Pole this weekend, presumably because he's too busy roughing it to shave.

Harry will brave sub-zero temperatures and harsh conditions with Walking With the Wounded, in an effort to raise awareness for wounded veterans.

Harry didn't reference his facial hair in an pre-trek interview with Sky News, but he did joke that Prince William would envy his freedom.

"My brother, yeah, I think he's just quite jealous that I managed to get away from a screaming child," Harry said.

As for the rest of the family?

"My father was a little concerned," Harry said of Prince Charles. "But I obviously tried to keep him calm and explain the North Pole was the dangerous one because we're walking on a frozen ocean whereas this time there are crevasses."

Harry completed a Walking With the Wounded trek to the North Pole in 2011.

The prince also said he was honored to take on the challenge.

"Every single person who takes part in this challenge is extraordinary. The fact these guys have made it to this point is extraordinary and I count myself incredibly lucky to be part of it," he said.
