Nov. 23 (UPI) -- The University at Tennessee unveiled a statue and plaza dedicated to former Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt Friday with a ceremony before a crowd of about 1,000 people.

During remarks at the ceremony, Summitt said that though her likeness and name graces the Pat Summitt Plaza, the day wasn't just about her.

“I want everyone to know from me today is not about me,” she said. “It’s about everyone out here that loves the University of Tennessee. We hope and pray we can continue to do great things.

“I want everyone to know how much I appreciate what’s happened today. I don’t think I’ll ever forget it. I love you all.”

After the remarks, Summitt, her son, Tyler, and former Lady Vol player Tamika Catchings pulled the covering off the statue for the first time, the Knoxville (Tenn.) News Sentinel reported.

The bronze statue of Summitt was created by artist and sculptor David Adickes of Houston, Texas.
