Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Russell Brand continued his surprisingly long history of immigration problems when he tried unsuccessfully to check-in to a flight to Johannesburg, South Africa on Friday. "Banned from South Africa. Here ready to go. Refused entry. Hope I can come soon," the 38-year-old comedian tweeted.

Brand was scheduled to perform four shows on his Messiah Complex tour in the country. In a series of tweets, the Brit said he'd arrived at the airport in the hope that his visa problems had been solved.

Brand missed his scheduled appearance on Dave Letterman's show back in 2010 after JFK airport authorities held him for hours. In 2011, he was deported from Japan after authorities discovered his arrest record.
