Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Forget dessert. Walmart, the U.S.'s largest retailer, announced Black Friday deals will begin on Thursday night around dinnertime along with competitors, Target, Best Buy and Macy's. Wal-Mart deals will start at 6:00 p.m.

Additional deals will be launched at 8:00 p.m. and again at 8:00 a.m. Friday morning, with specific deals rolling out at each time. Shoppers are encouraged to do their research on when to find the best deals. Walmart announced a number of TVs, tablets, appliances and toys released at each sale.

Best Buy will also be opening at 6:00 p.m. A number of stores, including Target, Sears and Macy's are opening Thanksgiving night at 8:00 p.m.

The National Retail Federation estimated that this year's holiday sales will be almost 4 percent higher than last year. Retailers are opening earlier because this year's shopping season is almost a full week shorter than last year's.

Customers who wait in line for items can get a "one-hour guarantee," with sold out items guaranteed to be shipped to the designated store for the customer before Christmas. The guarantee program debuted last year.

One million Walmart employees will be working on Thanksgiving. Employees staged protests last year on Black Friday demanding better wages and hours. This year, employees will get a 25 percent discount on one purchase along with a "nice Thanksgiving dinner" and "extra holiday pay."
