(UPI) -- Though she rarely veers into Miley Cyrus territory, Katy Perry has a distinct performance aesthetic characterized by colorful backgrounds, numerous costume changes and high energy dance sequences.
During Sunday night's appearance at the 2013 MTV European Music Awards in Amsterdam, the 29-year-old "Roar" singer performance her latest hit, "Unconditionally," while maypole dancers wrapped giant ribbons around her. She eventually broke free of the ribbons and levitated high above the stage.
Perry previewed the event on Twitter:

"It looks like I'm being abducted, basically ... and also there's a bit of a magic trick in it -- I'm not getting sawed in half, I'll do that later -- I'll be floating in space," she said.
