(UPI) -- Fresh off their World Series win Wednesday night, Boston Red Sox players are already looking ahead.

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Boston team's leadoff hitter and center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury will likely leave the team after being unable to agree on a long-term deal.

Olney's sources claim that after the 2011 season, for which Ellsbury finished second in the American League MVP race, the Sox offered him a deal of less than $100 million -- but the counter offer from his agent, Scott Boras, was for $130 million.

The Red Sox fell short again last season, offering the leadoff hitter approximately $15 million per season. SB Nation reports that if Ellsbury is to leave the team, he'll be the most coveted outfielder in the game.

The Seattle Mariners and the Texas Rangers are expected to make a strong run at the player.
