(UPI) -- The big man of basketball is throwing his support behind New Jersey's political mogul.

Former NBA great Shaquille O'Neal cut a political ad endorsing Gov. Chris Christie in his runaway reelection bid, calling the blunt politician a "good -- excuse me -- great man."

"I don’t endorse many politicians, but, Chris Christie is different,” said O'Neal, who grew up in Newark, in the 30-second spot.

"He's working with me to bring jobs back to our cities, and on a new program to help kids in tough neighborhoods get ahead," O'Neal goes on. "Governor Christie's provided more funding for schools, given parents more choices in what schools their kids can go to, and merit pay for good teachers."

"He's a good man. Excuse me -- he's a great man. Please join me in supporting Chris Christie -- the governor."

O'Neal has jumped into two political campaigns before this one, which Christie is expected to win by a nearly 30-point margin.

The four-time NBA champ endorsed President Barack Obama for reelection, and the failed campaign of Carmen Trutanich for Los Angeles district attorney, both in 2012.
