(UPI) -- Retired New York Yankee Mariano Rivera will be honored with the Commissioner's Historic Achievement Award before Game 2 of the World Series between the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday.
The former relief pitcher, who threw his last ever pitch on September 26, will receive the award from MLB Commissioner Bud Selig during a press conference scheduled for 7 p.m. EDT. The 43-year-old star will attend the event with his wife and two children per MLB's press release.
