(UPI) Prince William and Kate Middleton, the duke and duchess of Cambridge, visited St. James' Palace for Prince George's official christening.
Wearing a handmade replica of the traditional christening robe worn by generations of tiny royals, Prince George looked plumper than his first public appearance outside St. Mary's hospital in London.
Kate's family -- her parents, Michael and Carole, and two siblings, Pippa and James -- attended the ceremony, as did Prince Harry, his parents, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles and grandparents Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.
Prince George's seven godparents also attended his special day, having been chosen amongst William and Kate's close circle of personal and family friends and only one royal -- a stark contract to William's own cohort of godparents.
"I think they are both very keen to choose people as godparents, who are supposed to guide and advise this child, who are normal themselves and aren't foreign royal grandees who this child would have nothing in common with," royal family commentator Roya Nikkhah told ABC News.
They are:
Oliver Baker, 31, who attended St. Andrews with the duke and duchess. He shared a house with them during their last two years at the university.
Emilia Jardine-Paterson, also 31, is one of Kate's closest school friends from Marlborough College. She also attended St. Andrews and runs an interior design business called d’Erlanger and Sloan.
William van Cutsem, 33, has been one of Prince William's closest friends since birth. His father, the late Hugh Van Cutsem, attended Cambridge University with Prince Charles.
Zara Tindall, 32, is the only royal on George's list of godparents. She's William's cousin, Princess Anne's daughter, and is expecting her own child with her rugby player husband, Mike Tindall, early next year.
Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, 53, served as William's private secretary from 2005 until last month. A former SAS officer, Pinkerton still works one day a week to advise his replacements. He previously served as equerry to the queen mother.
Julia Samuel, 54, was once of Princess Diana's closest friends. She founded Child Bereavement UK.
Earl Grosvenor, 22, is the youngest of George's godparents. Known to family and friends as Hugh, he's the son of the duke of Westminster. His mother, the duchess of Westminster, is William's godmother.
