(UPI) -- Contestants on Dancing With the Stars often end up doing a lot more than the Texas two-step because of the inherently steamy nature of one of primetime’s most popular shows.
“When you have two single people in a room and you are spending so much time together, it’s natural to have chemistry and to be curious,” said longtime dance pro Cheryl Burke. “All of a sudden you think you are in love because you are grinding on each other seven days a week.”
Backstage hookups occur “a lot more than people know,” said dance pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
Apparently dance partners often head to L.A nightclubs for late-night rendezvous once the cameras go off and the show’s producers head home.
The show does not currently have any workplace dating policy, but could probably use one, as producers are reportedly left cleaning up after some failed showmances.
“Us dancers are very touchy feely,” Burke says. “We’re used to grinding on each other. But for other people, that’s not normal. This is why feelings start to happen. They think ‘she likes me.’”
Burke, 29, admitted to fooling around with one of her former dance partners and there is speculation that it was former football star Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson. After they were bounced from the show, Johnson presented her with a $10,000 diamond ring.
“I gave it back to him,” Burke said. “I felt weird wearing that big diamond that first of all is way too big for my hand. And it sent a weird message. Like, what are you guys engaged?”
