Woman sleepwalks, falls onto train tracks at Davis Square station in Somerville

(UPI) -- A sleepwalking woman was rescued by bystanders after she stepped off a train platform in Somerville, Mass. Tuesday morning.

In a dramatic clip released by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority the woman is seen falling into the pit at Davis Square Station and laying on the tracks at about 8:41 a.m.

After a crowd of bystanders arrived and gathered around the scene, two men jumped into the pit to lift the woman out while others helped from the platform.

Jim Kang, 36, was at the station when the incident took place.

“Before 9 a.m., I came down the stairs of the Davis Square T station and heard screaming,” Kang said in an e-mail. “I, and many others, looked around for the source.”

“A man asked people to move away from the woman, saying she was his wife,” Kang added. “Soon after that, a T employee came by asking what happened, and the woman said she fell in and that her arm was broken.”

MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said the woman was never in danger of being struck by a train, as no trains were near the station at the time of the incident.
