(UPI) -- Jenni Rivera's daughter has denied rumors that she had an affair with her stepfather Esteban Loaiza.
In an interview with Azteca América Janney "Chiquis" Marin said her fallout with her mother was due to a "misunderstanding" that took place on October 2, 2012.
"My world ended that day," Marin said.
Rivera, who died in a tragic plane crash in December of 2012, filed for divorce from Loaiza on October 1, 2012. However, she was legally married to the former MLB pitcher at the time of her death.
Though Rivera never publicly spoke of the affair, she reportedly performed her hit "Paloma Negra" -- a song about a fight and reconciliation -- hours before her death and dedicated the song to her daughter.
"I don't understand how the rumor got started," Marin said. "This horrible thing that has caused so much suffering. [My stepdad] has always been very respectful towards me and me with him."
"There were so many people filling her head with things," she said. "If there's a problem with someone you should ask them directly, and that's something she didn't do. To this day, my mother, in her heart, thinks I had something with Esteban."
