Amanda Bynes did not appear in court as scheduled Tuesday, because a judge agreed to transfer her case to a mental-health court.

Bynes' attorney argued that the 27-year-old actress -- now in treatment for mental health problems -- is unable to understand the legal proceedings related to her 2012 DUI arrest in West Hollywood. "The mental health court will examine Bynes and determine her competency to stand trial," Bynes attorney Richard Hutton told E! News.

Bynes was placed on involuntary psychiatric hold last July after she set a small fire in the driveway of a Los Angeles-area home. Though previously estranged from her daughter, Bynes' mother, Lynn, was given temporary conservatorship over her medical and financial affairs.

Bynes also faces charges on the other side of the country stemming from an incident last May -- when a New York City police officer allegedly saw her throw a bong out of her window.
