Ellen Pompeo says her Emmys criticism was 'off the record'

The "Grey's Anatomy" star told Bravo's Andy Cohen that her comments regarding the Emmys' lack of diversity were made "off the record."

You weren't supposed to hear Ellen Pompeo dissing Sunday night's lackluster Emmy Awards, because the 43-year-old actress said she made those comments "off the record."

Speaking to Andy Cohen on "Watch What Happens Live" Monday night, the "Grey's Anatomy" star said she criticized the Emmys walking from the elevator into her interview and that her team is looking into why her comments made it to print.

The Associated Press had previously quoted Pompeo slamming the "dated" Emmys ceremony for its lack of diversity.

"That dance number was embarrassing. Did you see one person of color in that dance number?" she said.

Despite the mix up, Pompeo said she stood by her comments.
