Hello Kitty jet lands in Los Angeles

By KATE STANTON, UPI.com

The world's cutest-ever airplane made its first ever landing at LAX on Wednesday, complete with a welcome ceremony that included life-size Hello Kitty characters and a Japanese pop star.

Taiwan's EVA Air will operate its adorable Hello Kitty jet -- a 312-seat Boeing 777-300ER -- on weekly flights from Taipei to Los Angeles, during which fans of the Sanrio cartoon series will experience Hello Kitty on everything from head rests to their toilet paper.

According to CNN, guests will also get their boarding passes stamped with a Hello Kitty shape and walk through a Hello Kitty gate.

"EVA chose Los Angeles as its first long-range Hello Kitty jet route to not only attract more passengers from the United States, but also to demonstrate the importance of the route," the airline said in a statement.

J. Alexander, a former runway coach on "America's Next Top Model," told The Hollywood Reporter that he was impressed by the airline's attention to detail.

"I'd like to know who is designing all of it," he said. "It's all done so chicly that even if you flew coach, you'd have no idea you were flying on that because you're getting that same kind of service in the detail of the food."

Though this is the jet's first flight to the U.S., it already makes shorter runs from Taiwan to Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, China and Guam.
