Miley Cyrus reportedly lost her chance to grace the cover of Vogue for her racy VMA performance, but the 20-year-old singer looks like a million dollars covering the October issue of Harper's Bazaar in a sleek black dress.

Cyrus has come a long way from playing the lead character on the Disney channel's hit TV show "Hannah Montana." At 20 years old she is already a TV veteran, a world renowned singer and engaged to be married.

"I was an adult when I was supposed to be a kid. So now I’m an adult and I’m acting like a kid," Cyrus tells the magazine.

The "Wrecking Ball" singer began working for Disney when she was 12 years old. When the show wrapped five years later, Cyrus admits that she just wanted to "chill."

"I took off and I just wanted to party. I worked so hard, and I wanted to buy a house and just chill," she says, adding that even though she's moved out of her parents' house and can afford to take care of herself, she still feels like a kid.

"There are times when I'm sitting in my big ole house and I'm like, 'I can't believe I'm allowed to be here alone,'" she ads.

Over the past year Cyrus has been trying to re-invent herself in the public eye. Her antics -- which include chopping off her famously long locks and controversial performances -- have prompted many to cry "meltdown," but the singer claims she knows exactly what she's doing.

"It changed everyone else's life more than it changed mine," Cyrus said with a laugh of her new haircut, adding that fame and money didn't really change her because she always had it. "My parents always had money, and I've always been around this industry, so I didn't have my mind blown or become obsessed with being famous."

The singer even brought up Justin Bieber, a fellow teen star trying to re-vamp his image, and talked about the most common mistakes made by young stars.

"I'm not saying you need to take a break because you're crazy. I'm saying you need to take a break so you can be crazy, and people aren't going to judge you. You're going to do dumb stuff from here on out. But do it in your own time. Do it safely. You can afford to protect yourself and still have fun."

About young celebrities who get arrested for DUI's she wonders, "Why don't they just get a driver?"

Cyrus told Bazaar she has a clear vision of what she wants her career to look like. She challenged her label when she presented her new album, "Bangerz."

"I told my label: 'This is the first time I'm showing you what I'm bringing to the table as an artist. If this goes wrong, you never have to trust me again. I'll be your little puppet. But if I'm right, then you know I'm on to something.'"

As for her infamous on-again off-again relationship with "Hunger Games" heartthrob Liam Hemsworth, Cyrus refused to go into details, but said there would be a wedding, eventually.

"I definitely don't have time to deal with a wedding right now. But I will at some point."

That quote comes at an interesting time as it was reported Sunday that she unfollowed her fiancee on Twitter following weeks of breakup rumors.

Either way, it seems like the only thing on Cyrus' mind right now is her music.

"I'm someone who cares about the real things in life," she explains. "There are things that are personal that stress me out, but my career? That doesn't affect me. I know I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing."
