Industry-watchers have been wondering how the Emmy Awards would recognize the recent deaths of two of biggest stars -- James Gandolfini, who died of a heart attack last June, and Cory Monteith, who died of a drug and alcohol overdose in July.

CBS has called upon close friends and colleagues to honor their lives of Gandolfini, Montheth and three others in a special portion of the annual Emmy Awards telecast, the network announced Monday.

Edie Falco will remember her late "Sopranos" co-star, Gandolfini, while Jane Lynch will speak for "Glee's" Monteith.

Additionally, Michael J. Fox will remember "Family Ties" producer Gary David Goldberg, Rob Reiner will honor "All in the Family" actress Jean Stapleton, and Robin Williams will speak on behalf of his "Mork and Mindy" co-star, Jonathan Winters.

“The In Memoriam is a very emotional and evocative segment for the Emmys, or any annual awards program,” said Ken Ehrlich, the show's executive producer, said in a statement.

These five individuals brought us such great entertainment and joy, so having their close friends share personal remembrances is something that will be very meaningful for television audiences across the country and across the generations. And, our traditional In Memoriam segment will be presented in a unique new format that will give added importance to an already much anticipated segment of the Emmy show.
