Amid all the buzz surrounding Miley Cyrus's twerktastic performance at MTV's Video Music Awards, the star has been uncharacteristically silent.

Cyrus commented today, though, saying that she does not read what people report on her.

“I don’t pay attention to the negative because I’ve seen this play out so many times,” Cyrus said.

“How many times have we seen this play out in pop music?”

“Madonna's done it. Britney's done it,” she said. “Every VMA performance, that’s what you’re looking for; you’re wanting to make history.”

For the 1984 VMAs, Madonna wore a wedding gown for her "Like a Virgin" performance. Britney Spears danced with a boa constrictor in the 2001 VMAs. In 2003, the two infamously kissed on stage.

Even before going onstage this year, Cyrus was prepared to have the attention that Spears and Madonna had gotten in the past.

“Me and Robin the whole time said, ‘You know we’re about to make history right now,'” she said.

“What’s amazing is … people are still talking about it. They’re overthinking it,” she adds. “You’re thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it. Like, I didn’t even think about it ’cause that’s just me!”
