Harry Styles claims twerking is 'inappropriate,' promotes promiscuity

Harry Styles must have changed his mind about twerking after seeing Miley Cyrus' performance at the 2013 MTV VMA's.

While promoting his new 3D concert movie "One Direction: This Is Us" last week the 19-year-old One Directioner told Moviefone he thought twerking was "inappropriate" for their mostly pre-teen fans.

"I think it's quite inappropriate. Especially for the age groups that it's aimed at." Styles told Moviefone.

Asked if he was worried about the age of his fans, Styles addressed his concerns with the dance once again.

"When they're twerking, yes," he said. "I think it's, you know, promoting promiscuity."

Styles' statement, however, could be perceived as contradictory considering he was seen twerking at the Teen Choice Awards back in August.

But even then, it was apparent that the boy bander was embarrassed about the impromptu twerk as he immediately sat down and covered his face after the dance.

Later that day, Styles tweeted, "Note to self. Don't 'twerk.'"

Though twerking has been around for years, Miley Cyrus has revamped the term over the past couple of months following the release of a clip in which she twerks in an unicorn onesie and her controversial VMA's performance. In turn, the Oxford dictionary decided to add the word "Twerk" to its online database during its quarterly update in late August.
