An Oklahoma town has been forced to shut off its water supply after its water tower was infested by tiny red worms.
Colcord, in eastern Oklahoma, shut down the water system Tuesday night and issued a warning the water in the system could be unsafe.
"They are passing through our filters and getting into our distribution lines," said Water Commissioner Cody Gibby.
"We'll get through it," said Frank Gibby, of Emergency Management. "This is a tough little town. We'll get through it."
The city issued a warning Tuesday, and handed out jugs of water from the Emergency Management office. Classes were also canceled Tuesday.
While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says there aren't any known health affects associated with the worms, the larvae of tiny flies, called blood worms.
The water quality is tested in Colcord twice each day, and officials say the best strategy to get rid of the little red buggers is to just flush them out.
