MTV released a first look at "Divergent" when its two stars, Shailene Woodley and Theo James, hit the Video Music Awards' red carpet on Sunday.
Clocking in at 1:15, the teaser trailer offers fans a glimpse of the dystopian world envisioned by the book series' author, Veronica Roth, in which people of a futuristic society are divided into factions based on personality types. Woodley plays Tris Pryor, the 16-year-old who leaves her family behind for the fear-defying Dauntless faction. The trailer also includes scenes with Kate Winslet as the series cunning villain, Jeanine Matthews.
"Divergent" hits theaters March 2014.
