When it was revealed last year that Lance Armstrong used banned substances and participated in a "doping conspiracy," the U.K.'s Sunday Times sued the disgraced cyclist for £1 million (about $1.5 million)

The lawsuit stemmed from a 2004 libel case, in which Armstrong received £300,000 from the Sunday Times for what was supposedly an erroneous report about his drug use.

When the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) stripped Armstrong of his seven Tour de France titles, the Sunday Times demanded their money back along with £720,000 in costs for the "baseless and fraudulent" libel suit.

The Sunday Times said it had reached a "mutually acceptable final resolution" with Armstrong, though the terms of the deal "remain confidential."

In a January interview with Oprah Winfrey, the 41-year-old Texan said he couldn't have won the Tour de France without doping, saying that he believed he was cycling on a "level playing field."

"I view this situation as one big lie that I repeated a lot of times. ... This story was so perfect for so long," he said.
