Republican Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) warned Wednesday that President Obama was "getting perilously close" to perpetrating the "high crimes and misdemeanors" necessary for impeachment.

In the Muskogee, Oklahoma town hall, Coburn said Congress may soon have to act on impeachment, though he did not present any impeachable offense specifically and admitted he has no legal knowledge of the subject.

At the end of the meeting, a woman asked Coburn about the "lawless administration we currently have" in relation to the Constitution, and asked "who is he [Obama] accountable to?"

"What you have to do is you have to establish the criteria that would qualify for proceedings against the president, and that’s called impeachment. But, that’s not something you take lightly, and you have to use a historical precedent of what that means. I think there’s some intended violation of the law in this administration, but I also think there’s a ton of incompetence of people who are making decisions.

You know, in Homeland Security, 15 of 17 of the top spots right now are empty. I would just tell you, the general portion of the nominees are absolutely incompetent."

When pressed about whether Republicans would pursue action against the President, Coburn said he tends to "wiggle out" of such requests, but found his applause by saying Obama is getting "perilously close" to impeachment.

"My little wiggle out of that when I get that written to me is I believe that needs to be evaluated and determined, but thank goodness it doesn’t have to happen in the Senate until they have brought charges in the House. Those are serious things, but we’re in a serious time. So whether -- I don’t have the legal background to know if that rises to high crimes and misdemeanors, but I think they’re getting perilously close."
