Dave Grohl, Pearl Jam documentaries to air online

VH1 is turning the channel to Seattle, announcing it will air two documentaries about some of the greatest musicians ever to come out of the 206 area code.

The music channel's Emmy-winning series "Rock Docs" will feature two films about Seattle-bred artists: Dave Grohl's "Sound City" and Cameron Crowe's "Pearl Jam 20."

"Sound City," the directorial debut from the Foo Fighters frontman, focuses on the recording studio that give the film its name. There, some of the most important albums of the past few decades were made, including those by Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, Neil Young and Trent Reznor.

Those artists, along with Grohl, who recorded at Sound City on Nirvana's 1991 album "Nevermind," are among the Sound City legends who were interviewed for the film.

VH1 and VH1 Classic will air "Sound City" on August 17.

On October 12, the network will air "Pearl Jam 20," the second in a series exploring the formation and early years of the Eddie Vedder-fronted group.

Directed by Cameron Crowe ("Jerry Maguire," "Almost Famous"), the film digs through material from more than 1,200 hours of rare and unseen footage of Peal Jam's rise to fame.
