Maksim Chmerkovskiy, the popular professional dancer who joined "Dancing With the Stars" in season 2, could be back as a regular this fall.

ABC honcho Paul Lee told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour this Sunday that 33-year-old Ukrainian could return for the reality competition's 17th season.

“Maks is part of the family. He may well be back,” Lee said of the dancer's possible return.

“We love having him a part of it,” Lee added.

Chmerkovsky, who has spent the summer dancing in Broadway's "Forever Tango," did not participate regularly in season 16.

"Dancing With the Stars" returns September 16.
