Beef recall: 50,000 lbs of beef recalled by Kansas company

National Beef Packing Co., a Kansas company, has issued a recall of 50,000 pounds of beef over an E. coli contamination.

The products, which were shipped nationwide, could be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said Wednesday.

Thus far, there have been no reported cases of illnesses.

National Beef Packing Co. announced the "voluntary recall for NatureSource Natural Beef, Naturewell Natural Beef and National Beef commodity ground beef" in an online statement on Wednesday.

The products were produced on July 18 and have a use by/freeze by date of August 7. They were shipped in "40 to 60 pound cases to retailers, wholesalers and food service distributors nationwide," the USDA said.

The products have the USDA mark of inspection under establishment number "EST. 208A."

"We are working closely with authorities to investigate this matter and are contacting our customers who have purchased this product," the company said in the statement.

The Food Safety and Inspection Service inspection discovered the possible E.coli threat during a routine inspection. This is the second time National Beef Packing Co. issues a recall this summer. In June, the company recalled 22,000 pounds of beef over fears of an E.coli contamination.
