David O'Russell hit it big last year with "Silver Linings Playbook," a small drama starring Bradley Cooper as a bipolar romantic and Jennifer Lawrence as a depressed dance hopeful. His next project, "American Hustle," will reunite the two stars but send them back to the 1970s, when disco-ready hairstyles, gaudy jewelry and outrageously patterned leisure suits reigned supreme.
Unlike the "Silver Linings'" small, personal storyline, "American Hustle" fictionalizes the late 1970s Abscam sting, in which two con men work with an FBI agent to uncover high-level political corruption. Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner and Amy Adams round out the main cast, while Robert DeNiro and Louis C.K. show up for smaller roles.
"American Hustle" hits theaters this December.
