iPhone fingerprint scanner a 'sure thing'

A line of code in the new version of iPhone iOS 7 beta software seems to confirm rumors that Apple is adding fingerprint scanning technology to the next iPhone model, expected out sometime this fall.

The iOS 7 beta 4 release, made available to developers Monday, includes a folder called "BiometricKitUI" and command strings that describe the fingerprint scanning process.

Developer Hamza Sood, who uncovered the strings, said the fingerprint sensor would be contained in the phone's home button.

Apple acquired fingerprint recognition chip firm AuthenTec last July, fueling rumors that the technology would be a key component to the next iPhone.
