Teri Hatcher says she "jumped" at the chance to voice the forklift Dottie in "Planes," an upcoming spinoff of Pixar's "Cars" franchise.
Produced by DisneyToon Studios, the film was originally set to be released straight to video in North America, but after seeing impressive clips, Walt Disney Pictures shifted to theatrical release, in the Disney Digital 3D and RealD 3D formats.
The first film in a planned "Planes" trilogy stars Dane Cook as the voice of Dusty Crophopper, a cropduster with big dreams. Hatcher says her character, Dottie, was "a nurturing, loyal, earnest friend who could have some comedic attitude."
The film, which premiered in London earlier this month, will hit theaters August 9. A planned sequel, titled "Planes: Fire & Rescue," is set to follow in 2014.
In recent interview promoting the animated feature, Hatcher said she loves the fans of hit series "Desperate Housewives," on which she played Susan Meyer until the show ended in 2012. She also said she hopes for a future movie. "If a script ever came across my lap, I would read it, hoping that it would work out, but I don’t really see that happening," she said.
