Rapper DMX has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, less than a week after being arrested on suspicion on DUI.

In court papers filed Monday, Earl Simmons, a.k.a. DMX, wrote the move will "enable me to reorganize my financial affairs."

The South Carolina resident lists less than $50,000 in assets, the primary of which is a 50 percent stake in property in Mount Kisco, N.Y. According to court records, DMX lists between $1 million and $10 million in debt.

DMX representative Domenick Nati said "poor financial management by prior representation has caused him to be ineligible to retain a passport."

The rapper is planning to tour Europe and Africa later this year, but passports are not issued to those who owe $2,500 or more in child support, according to the U.S. Department of State.

DMX owes $1.24 million in child support alone. Nati claims DMX was unaware his previous managers weren't making his child support payments.

DMX was pulled over and arrested Friday on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was released after he passed a breathalyzer test in jail and posted $1,235 bail.
