In a nightmare scenario, Kristen Beauregard, of Pantego, Texas, was exercising her miniature horses when thousands of bees swarmed out of her backyard shed and started stinging her, her boyfriend and the animals.
"They were chasing us down; they were following us," she told the Houston Chronicle. "We swept up piles and piles of them. … It was like a bad movie."
Beauregard and her boyfriend were stung tens of times, but managed to escape serious injury by jumping into the pool. Her two horses were stung to death.
"It got all dark, like it was nighttime, there were so many bees," she added. "We were trying to stand up in the water, but every time we stuck our heads out for air, they would cover us and start stinging us. We were trying to breathe, and they were stinging us in the face and in the nose."
The swarm also killed five hens.
Authorities are testing the bees to see if they're Africanized "killer" bees, which are known to have killed humans and animals in the past.
