The Texan actress accused of mailing ricin-laced letters to Barack Obama and Michael Bloomberg last May gave birth to a four-months premature baby boy while in police custody, NBC News reported Wednesday.

Shannon Richardson's Texas-based attorney has told the media that the baby weighed less than 2 pounds when he was born.

"I've been told he's in need of heart surgery and of course has issues with his lungs not being fully developed," Tonda Curry said.

According to AL.com, Richardson named the baby Brody.

Richardson allegedly contacted federal authorities last May to accuse her husband of the ricin mailings, though authorities believe she committed the crime herself. She was arrested in early June.

Richardson, also known as Shannon Rogers and Shannon Guess, has had bit parts on television series like "The Walking Dead" and "Vampire Diaries."
