With her husband, Detroit's former mayor, serving time across the country, Carlita Kilpatrick has lost her job and moved out of her family's 5,000-square-foot mansion in Prairie View, Texas, the Detroit Free Press reported Tuesday.

Kilpatrick lost her $41,200 job as a public servant for the city of Duncanville, Texas, when her superiors said she failed to meet the requirements of her employment probation period. A week later, neighbors saw family items littering the curb before trash day.

Carlita's husband, Kwame, is awaiting sentencing behind bars in Detroit, after a jury convicted him of 24 corruption charges last March, including racketeering, extortion and fraud.

A real estate agent denied speculation that the Kilpatricks were evicted, saying instead that their realtor decided not to renew their lease.

Neighbor Malinda Carter told the Detroit News that she never saw the Kilpatricks outside the home.

“Neighbors cut the grass because it was getting too long,” Carter said. “Flower beds were out of control and it looked like there was no one in there.

“I never saw a female or any man out there," she added.
