Hellen Mirren knows exactly which words she would've taught her daughter first, had she had one.

"If I’d had children and had a girl, the first words I would have taught her would have been 'f*** off' because we weren’t brought up ever to say that to anyone, were we?" the actress told the Daily Mail. "And it’s quite valuable to have the courage and the confidence to say, 'No, f*** off, leave me alone, thank you very much.'"

The 67-year-old star's remarks came as she was discussing how women were mistreated in the entertainment industry and how disgraced British television presenter Jimmy Savile "could get away with anything" during his time at the BBC.

Mirren explained that her early years in the entertainment business went from being "not great" to "really crap."

"The 60s were not great, the 70s were really crap; the 60s and 70s were pretty ghastly," she said. "And into the 80s, as an actress, you would be the only female on set, apart from the continuity person, who was always a woman, and maybe your own personal wardrobe person."

However, the Oscar-winner acknowledges that things have changed over time.

"Oh yes, a great thing that I have noticed changing is behind the camera, especially in the electrical department, which I find very exciting, to see girl grips, girl camera... whoops, sorry, not girl, female, FEMALE cinematographers.’"

Female power seems to be a recurrent subject with Dame Hellen Mirren this month. In a recent interview with Press Association, the actress opened up about her thoughts on the future Prince or Princess of Cambridge adding it would be "great" if the baby is a girl.

"We need more Queens in our life," Mirren said.

Asked how she'd like the name "Diana" for the royal baby, she said it would be "interesting" to see if "they'll go there."

"Her second name will be Elizabeth without a doubt," she said, adding that the name Caroline would "also work."

"It would be nice to have one of those ancient Anglo-Saxon names," she added.
