Regis Philbin is set to join the team at new network Fox Sports 1 to host a show called "Crowd Goes W!ld." The hour-long sports talk show was announced in March under the name "Rush Hour."
The show's proposed format has also changed. "Crowd Goes W!ld" is hosted by Philbin, along with ex-NFL defensive lineman Trevor Pryce, Wall Street Journal columnist Jason Gay, former pro tennis player Michael Kosta and former Sky Sports News host Georgie Thompson.
“We’ve got a nice little panel of people together, a lot of friends,” Philbin said. “And if a celebrity like George Clooney comes to town with a movie, we’ll play clips from his movie -- but we’ll also talk to George, who grew up in Cincinnati, about his sports roots, like if he’s still a big Reds fan."
The show is also bringing on Katie Nolan of Guyism.com to be their social media correspondent. Fox has said that "Crowd Goes W!ld," despite its panel format, will be "less argumentative" than other sports programming.
Philbin, 81, left "Live" with Kelly Ripa in November 2011 and has said he was not in the market for another television gig until he met with Fox. Fox Sports 1 launches on Aug. 17, followed by the "Crowd Goes W!ld" premiere on Aug. 19.
