Samantha Pittendrigh, a 20-year-old Pretoria University student, was visiting South Africa's Kruger National Park on July 5 with some friends when she managed to capture a stunning animal act on video, Metro UK reported Wednesday.
A line of tourist cars was making its way through the bush when a group of impalas leapt across the road, followed by a pair of hungry cheetahs. In a frantic escape attempt, one of the impalas jumped right though a car window.
"We started freaking out, going crazy; we couldn't believe it, we were absolutely dumbstruck," Pittendrigh said.
"All of a sudden we saw the impala jump out of the bushes and then someone started screaming, 'It is in the car! It is in the car!'" she explained. "People in other cars screamed 'Open the door! Open the door!'"
The impala jumped calmly out of the car and ran into the bush, safe from the cheetah.
"It really is a once-in-a-lifetime thing and we managed to be in the right place at the right time," Pittendrigh said of the experience.
