Cyndi Lauper is one step closer to EGOT status, as she will be taking home the Tony for Best Original Score for the popular musical "Kinky Boots."
The musical, based on the 2005 film about two men who forge a friendship to save a failing shoe company, features music and lyrics by Cyndi Lauper and has become a hit on Broadway. The show is up for 13 total Tonys.
In an interview with CBS New York, Lauper said she was thrilled to be nominated as it was hard work writing for Broadway. Of her long and unusual career, the Emmy and four-time Grammy Award winner said, "It’s been a quite a ride for me...I’ve got to say I did a lot of twist and turns, and my career never went like anybody else’s. So after a while, I didn’t try to be like anybody else’s.”
