Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick wants to be named starter, and he's running out of patience.

“Hopefully, [Eagles coach] Chip [Kelly] makes a decision before training camp and we won’t have to answer that question,” Vick said, “so we can go out there as quarterbacks and just focus on this season and not answer questions about competition every day.”

Through this year's minicamp, which ended Thursday, Vick split quarterbacking time with Nick Foles, 24, like they did throughout the last season.

“It’s tough,” he said. “I have to continue to be a professional and put my feelings and emotions to the side, and just continue to compete. But it’s hard.

"I would be lying if I said it wasn’t, but that’s just what I have to deal with, and I’m going to keep dealing with it until I see otherwise.”

While Vick said "there's better things to talk about" than speculation over the starters, and pushed Kelly to make the call before camp begins July 26, Kelly has repeatedly said he would wait.

“We have an understanding of their athletic ability and how they run, change direction and things like that," Kelly said at the team's final minicamp practice. "But there are still a lot of things to be evaluated when you put the pads on.

“It's still a physical game," he said. "A lot of guys look great in shorts and T‑shirts, then they disappear when you put the pads on. Until we get the pads on, we can't tell.”

Kelly has often repeated his plans for an open quarterback competition heading into the season, but sources close to Vick said the 32-year-old had felt the starting position was understood when he resigned for a significant pay cut.

The last time the Eagles went into camp without a clear starter was 1997, when both Ty Detmer and Rodney Peete were up for the job.
