Bernando LaPallo, 111, had the "greatest day" of his life when he met general manager Joe Girardi and team captain Derek Jeter on the field before the Yankees played the Red Sox Saturday.

The Brazilian-born LaPallo has lived in New York for 90 years, studied culinary arts at the Sorbonne, fought in World War II and ran a massage therapy business, according to a profile on MLB.com. He's now the author of a book called "Age Less Live More."

“This is the greatest day of my life,’’ LaPallo told The New York Post. “The Yankees and I were born in the same year, 1901.’’

“I spoke about his accident and hoped he would get back to hit more homers and steal more bases,’’ LaPallo said of his conversation with Jeter.

LaPallo also spoke of the time he met Babe Ruth, 93 years ago.

"I shook his hand and he said, 'My greatest admirer, my youngest admirer,'" he told MLB.com. "I remember that like yesterday."
