Actor Steven Seagal reportedly attempted to set up a congressional visit to Chechnya, but lawmakers backed out at the last minute.

The trip to Russia, officially dubbed CODEL, would've been part of a House committee's investigation of last month's Boston Marathon bombing, Politico reported. Seagal offered to help set up the meeting because of his closeness to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov.

However, sources claim that the proposed visit caused a divide among the delegation, as many members were "uncomfortable" traveling to a nation that hasn't always respected human rights and that is ruled by a Kremlin-backed strongman.

The members of the Russia delegation include Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.), Reps. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), Bill Keating (D-Mass), Steve King (R-Iowa), Paul Cook (R-Calif.) and Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.).

Segal recently began assisting the Russian governemnt in an effort to begin a fitness campaign in the country and to lobby the U.S. government for guns on Moscow's behalf.

The Chechen Republic, or Chechnya, is a semi-autonomous independent republic within Russia ruled by Kandrov.
