Soon after Mariah Carey announced she would be leaving the hit singing competition after only one season, her fellow judge and occasional sparring partner, Nicki Minaj, also confirmed her departure in a Thursday night tweet.
A source told The Hollywood Reporter that producers hoped Minaj would draw younger viewers to the struggling franchise, but that she only managed to turn off "American Idol's" older fans.
