Oscar De La Rosa, the lead singer of popular Tejano group La Mafia, was attacked outside Houston nightclub Blur Blur early Tuesday morning, KWTX reported. De La Rosa reportedly suffered severe cuts to his face, lips and eye. The band posted an update about De La Rosa's condition to their Facebook page on Tuesday:

Oscar De La Rosa was assaulted around 1:30 AM this morning leaving a local bar in Houston. He is still in trauma care at Memorial Herman Hospital (sic). He has suffered severe face lacerations and possible damage to his right eye. A police report has been filed and the the identity of the assailant has been confirmed, assault charges will be filed as soon he is located.
De La Rosa and his driver were reportedly injured in the unprovoked attack by a fan who hadn't been allowed to take a photo with him.
"This person was in the club and had wanted a photo with Oscar. And sometimes when he goes out for entertainment he doesn't like taking pictures," bandmate Armando Lichtenberger Jr. told KTRK-TV in Houston.
"He sucker-punched the driver, knocked him half unconscious and then he went at Oscar and started pounding on his face," Lichtenberger added. "A sucker punch is the worst thing. He didn't get to defend himself at all. It happened so fast."
The Houston Press described La Mafia as one of Latin music's most successful bands. After releasing 40 albums over 30 years, the group has earned two Grammy Awards and two Latin Grammys. Tejano music was popularized by Mexican-American performers of central and south Texas.
