Executives at the Alphabet network broke hearts when it canceled the well-loved but little-watched "Happy Endings."

ABC's ensemble comedy, which wrapped its third season May 3, was joined by "Body of Proof," "How to Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life)," "Malibu Country," and "Red Widow" in getting the axe Friday.

But fans of the half-hour comedy can hang on to some measure of hope as its producers at Sony TV have already reached out to other networks to pick up the show, a la TBS and "Cougar Town."

USA Network is reportedly interested in joining the half-hour comedy space, Deadline reported, and "Happy Endings" fits the bill.

ABC's five new canceled shows were added to a pile of discards that already included "666 Park Avenue," "Don't Trust the B---- in Apt. 23," "Last Resort," "Private Practice," and "Zero Hour" after a rough season for the network.

With the primetime season nearly at an end, ABC has languished in fourth place among broadcast networks in the coveted 18-49 demo.
