Matthew Keys, the Reuters editor who is under indictment for allegedly conspiring with hacker group Anonymous, was fired Monday.

The Huffington Post reports Keys delivered the news via Twitter.

"Just got off the phone. Reuters has fired me, effective today. Our union will be filing a grievance. More soon," he posted Monday morning.

In March Keys was suspended as Reuters' digital media editor when he was accused of helping Anonymous hack into the Tribune company servers.

The wire's decision to let Keys go came days after he was highly criticized for his tweeting of the Boston Marathon bombing when he posted several wrong facts he allegedly got from police scanners.

Keys defended himself on Twitter claiming everyone had used anonymous sources while covering the bombings, but that he hadn't retracted what his sources told him.
